In my next post (first update) I will cover more on how to feed your plants organically.
Ok! Lets see how we can provide good light and warmth for seedlings:
Grow lights are handy in that you can put them wherever you want, making it easy to hang them above almost any heating system.
Note: See how I just put the lid on the small tote and set my seedlings on top as they came up. The ones that haven't germinated yet are still inside the small tote, getting all the heat and moisture they need.
Tip: A small fan (like a bedroom fan) blowing into the box would be a good idea. This would help with ventilation and also help boost the heat when necessary.
How to make it
Make two sides like this first. Predrill holes and countersink screws so they don't catch when you slide it in. You can reinforce the joints with wood glue to make it stronger.
Attach top and bottom pieces to the front. You want to lay these flat for easy access to the box.
Attach top and bottom pieces to the back and add floor. I just used a piece of paneling I found in the shed. Check box for square before adding bottom. If it's too far off square it will not fit!
And that is all! Just slide it into a window where it will get sun. I stuffed up the cracks with insulation and there is hardly any draft. Your plants will love it!
